Detroit Jewish Book Fair offers full slate of author experiences

- By Gary Graff

The Detroit Jewish Book Fair — the oldest of its kind in the country — will spotlight international and local authors with a hybrid in-person/virtual festival running through Nov. 13.

Among this year’s highlights are: a virtual appearance by Harvey Fierstein promoting his new memoir “I Was Better Last Night” along with a live cabaret performance of “La cage aux Folles;” a look at “The Jewish World of Alexander Hamilton” featuring a virtual performance by Gregory Treco of the “Hamilton” Broadway production; a discussion about “The Letters of Oscar Hammerstein II” by Mark Eden Horowitz accompanied by a live performance; and a talk by Micheline Maynard about her new book “Satisfaction Guaranteed: How Zingerman’s Built a Corner Deli Into a Global Food Community.”

Most of the events are free and take place at the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit, 6600 W. Maple Road, West Bloomfield. A full schedule for the fair and other information is available via 248609-3303 or visit jccdet. org/bookfair.
