Troy murder victim ID’d, accused killer arraigned

Police have released the name of the man found dead in a Troy apartment on Monday and informatio­n on the man accused of murdering him.

Gregory Harris, 25, was shot multiple times inside a residence at the Charter Square Apartments, near Big Beaver and Rochester Roads. On Wednesday, Calvin Louis Austin, Jr., 23, was arraigned before 52-4 District Magistrate Elizabeth Chiappelli on charges of open murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Bond was denied. Magistrate Elizabeth Chiappelli of 52-4 District Court denied bond.

According to Sgt. Jason Clark of the Troy Police Department, the shooting happened after Austin and Harris had an argument.

Police officers found Harris with multiple gunshot wounds when they responded to a 911 call on a report of a shooting at around 3:45 p.m. The caller provided informatio­n on the suspected shooter, and Austin was located in the apartment complex parking lot where he was arrested without incident, police said.

Austin is scheduled for a probable cause conference on Nov. 22 before 52-4 District Judge Kirsten Hartig.
