Bruce Springsteen covers Motown songs on new album
Bruce Springsteen didn’t forget the Motor City while making his new R&B covers album “Only the Strong Survive,” which comes out Friday, Nov. 11. The 15-track set includes several nods to Motown, including the Four Tops’ “7 Rooms of Gloom” and “When She Was My Girl” (the latter for Casablanca Records), the Temptations’ “I Wish It Would Rain,” the Supremes’ “Someday We’ll Be Together” and Frank Wilson’s “Do I Love You (Indeed I Did),” as well as “Don’t Play That Song (You Lied),” which was recorded by Aretha Franklin. Springsteen and his E Street Band return March 29 to play their first-ever show at Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena.
