An Oakland County man has been sentenced for killing his stepfather and injuring his mother during a fight over video game playing.

Tuesday afternoon, Oakland County Circuit Judge Cheryl Matthews gave Christopher McKinney, 30, a 10- to 40-year sentence for the sec- ond-degree murder of Ray- mond Mancini, 71, and a 6- to 10 year-sentence for in- juring his mother for a Dec. 11, 2020 incident at their Madison Heights home. Matthews also handed down a sentence of 16 months to 2 years for two counts of assaulting/resist- ing/obstructing two police officers.

At sentencing, McKinney had 704 days jail credit.

In a deal made with prosecutors, McKinney pleaded no contest to the four charges last month on the second day of his trial before Matthews. In exchange for his plea, a first-degree murder charge was dismissed as was another charge of assault with intent to murder.

The case against McKinney stemmed from a fight that broke out between him, his mother and Mancini after they told him to leave their bedroom where he was playing video games, according to police. It was alleged that after McKinney struck them both, Mancini tried to defend himself with a knife but McKinney got hold of it and stabbed the couple. Mancini died four days later.
