A felon from Pontiac accused of killing a man on June 6 was found to be competent after undergoing court-ordered psychiatric testing, as stated during a hearing Tuesday in 50th District Court.

Jaydrian Munson, 38, is charged with first-degree murder and weap- ons offenses for the fatal shooting of Raymond Davis, 45, in the North Hill Farms apartment complex in Pontiac. Officials said Davis was hit multiple times by gunfire and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Munson was arrested later that day. He and Davis reportedly had an argument prior to the shooting.

According to Sheriff Mike Bouchard, 26 shell casings were recovered from the scene.

Munson was evaluated for competency at the state’s Center for Forensic Psychiatry and the court reviewed the report in late October, according to 50th District Judge Ronda Gross.

A preliminary exam is scheduled for Jan. 9, 2023 for the judge to be presented with evidence to determine if the case will proceed to Oakland County Circuit Court. Assistant prosecutor Darcy Jacobs told the judge that she might call five or six witnesses to testify, but possibly will pare that number down after consulting with Munson’s attorney Eric Wilson.

Munson is in the Oakland County Jail, denied bond. He has prior convictions for domestic violence, assault and battery, and carrying a concealed weapon.
