People using I-94 in Detroit for travel this weekend will find two bridge closures.

Work on the Second Avenue and Grand River Avenue bridges will require I-94 closures Friday night through Monday morning. Drivers should plan ahead, allowing for extra travel time, according to MDOT officials.

MDOT work will close westbound I-94 between I-75 to the Lodge Freeway (M10) and eastbound I-94 will be closed between I-96 and I-75. These parts of the freeway will close at 9 p.m. Friday, with reopening planned by 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21.

This work is weather-dependent. These MDOT projects will include adjusting hangars on the new Second Avenue bridge as well as setting steel bridge beams on the Grand River Avenue overpass.

Westbound I-94 drivers will have a detour on southbound I-75 and westbound I-96, back to westbound I-94. Entrance ramps to westbound I-94 between Mt. Elliott and John R.Streets will be closed.

Eastbound I-94 drivers will go to eastbound I-96 and northbound I-75 back to eastbound I-94. All entrance ramps to eastbound I-94 from 30th Street to the Lodge Freeway will be closed during this work.

Ramps in both directions will close by 9 p.m. Friday and reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.

Traffic on northbound and southbound Lodge Freeway/M-10 will have access to westbound I-94 over the weekend.
