Phase II starting for Waldon Road work
This is the second phase of a $14.7 million project and will last until fall. Funding is a combination of federal road dollars, road commission and the township’s money.
Waldon Road, Clintonville Road to Montclair Drive east of the Independence/ Orion townships’ border, will close on Friday, March 8, for gravel paving and worker safety.
An estimated 2,000 vehicles travel this route daily, according to Oakland County road commission officials.
This is the second phase of a $14.7 million project and will last until fall. Funding is a combination of federal road dollars, road commission and the township’s money.
Remaining construction and safety upgrades include:
• Asphalt paving on Waldon Road between Montclair Drive to Clintonville Road, including road shoulders.
• A roundabout at the intersection of Waldon and Clintonville roads. Work tentatively starts July 1. Road projects are weather dependent.
• Improving safety by realigning curves along Waldon Road on the Independence Township/ Orion Township border.
• Replacing two culverts.
• Realigning a small stream under the road.
Business owners and residents will continue to have access to their properties during this work.
Through traffic will be detoured from Waldon Road to Baldwin Road to Maybee Road to Clintonville Road, back to Waldon Road and vice versa.
The road and roundabout will open in the fall.
The first phase of Waldon Road construction, between Baldwin Road to Montclair Drive in Orion Twp., was completed in the fall of 2023.
That work included adding a shared-use pathway adjacent to the road from Montclair Drive to Baldwin Road.
