Two men who were reportedly breaking into cars with a woman who then fled police, was hit by a car and died last week have been arraigned on multiple charges.

Court records show Danarius Young, 28, and Chauncey Franklin, 21, are each charged with two counts of breaking and entering a vehicle — with damage, for the March 15 alleged incident. According to the Troy Police Department, they are both named in a 10-count warrant which also includes charges of conspiracy.

Young and Franklin are Florida residents — as was the 30-year-old woman who died, Ashley Latrice Hamm, police said. The three were identified by Troy Special Investigations and Shelby Township Special Investigations units for allegedly breaking into vehicles at fitness and daycare centers, and while officers were taking them into custody Hamm reportedly ran off and was hit by a car on M-59 near Livernois Road shortly before 7:30 a.m., police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a Macomb County resident, turned himself in later that day and was cooperating with officers, police said.

He reportedly said he initially thought he had hit debris in the roadway but subsequently learned someone had been struck and killed.

As an investigation into Hamm’s death continues, next court appearances for Young and Franklin are scheduled for April 1 before 52-3 District Judge Nancy Carniak.

Young and Franklin are held in the Oakland County Jail. In addition to the breaking and entering charges, they each have a pending case for allegedly conducting a criminal enterprise out of Macomb Township.
