PAIRING CHORDS WITH CANNABIS

CEO: Dispensary-record store coming to city will be ‘next greatest hit’

Construction has started on a marijuana dispensary in Berkley that will sell vinyl record albums and turntables along with cannabis to its adult recreational and medical patient customers.

“Cannabis and music go hand-in-hand,” said Brad Zerman, CEO and co-founder of Seven Point, in a statement.

The dispensary is being built at 28557 Woodward Ave. near Wiltshire Road. Zerman estimates the 3,400-square-foot facility will open its doors sometime this summer.

Marijuana is expected to account for more than 80 percent of sales at Seven Point.

“But Berkley, Woodward and Royal Oak are great areas for records, too,” Zerman said.

The store will also use technology to educate customers about varieties of marijuana strain origins, effects, and the different forms in which it can be consumed.

With the revival of vinyl records in recent years, Zerman said Seven Point will be a new kind of dispensary where people can shop for records to enhance their “cannabis experience.”

“We will spare no effort in designing this store to deliver the look and vibes of a record store,” he said.

Vinyl and album art will be displayed on

the walls next to cannabis displays.

Employees will play concert videos on TVs and music from albums sold in the store on turntables on the sales counter.

“Our budtenders will give recommendations on the best cannabis products that pair well with music genres,” Zerman said in a statement, adding that no other dispensary in the area will offer such an immersive experience. “We think Seven Point will be the next greatest hit.”

The sale of vinyl records has been climbing for well over a decade.

Americans last year bought nearly 50 million albums, which was a jump of 14 percent from the number sold in 2022, according to Forbes.

Vinyl record sales grew 61 percent to $1 billion over a 15-year period ending in 2021, according to Variety. The last time records exceeded $1 billion was in 1986.

Seven Point plans to precede its opening with some events this month in Berkley.

On Saturday, April 20, in celebration of the 420 cannabis holiday, the dispensary

will give out free branded lighter and rolling trays — while supplies last — at The Neighbor’s Shoppe at 2833 12 Mile Road in Berkley.

Seven Point is hosting a hiring event from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. April 24 in a large room at the Berkley Parks and Recreation Community Center, 2400 Robina. One table will also be set aside where marijuana patients can discuss how to register for a medical card, or renew one.

Berkley officials spent three years developing the city’s ordinance on marijuana businesses that wanted to open in the city. Ultimately the city set a limit of five such businesses in town. Seven Point will be the fourth. Zerman’s partner in founding the cannabis company is Gabe Ruben, a graduate of Berkley High School and a Huntington Woods resident. Berkley’s downtown has a long history of attracting a variety of firsttime business owners. One of them was Mayor Bridget Dean, formerly a small business owner in the city.

“We are very fortunate to have a robust business community that offers something for everyone,” Dean said. “It’s always exciting to see the new opportunities created in our community when business owners choose to open in Berkley.”
