Local performers give island hopping a new twist
Local Music Seen and Heard
Vocalist Marvilla Marzán is no stranger to the local music scene. Since 2003, she has teamed up with pianist Joe McCormick, playing venues that have included restaurants, resorts, country clubs, and special events. With an eclectic mix of musical styles, Marzán and McCormick wow their audiences and have even developed a local following. “I enjoy seeing familiar faces in a crowd and getting their requests,” Marzán says. “It makes it feel like home.”
Marzán credits her father with originally inspiring her to perform. “My father is a singer/ songwriter,” she notes. “I grew up watching him perform. He was my first inspiration.” Today, she draws inspiration from her husband and two young sons as well as from the people who enjoy her singing, including Southwest Florida’s visitors. “People come back time and again to our shores and make it a point to come and see us perform. They become a part of our extended family.”
Marzán and McCormick are heading into their third season of entertaining music lovers at Traditions on the Beach at the Island Inn Resort on Sanibel, performing on Thursday and Saturday evenings. “Joe and I perform many different styles. Our goal is to engage the crowd and get them dancing, so we’ll cover a lot of those classic songs that are easily recognized and also play some requests.”
The local music scene is indeed special to Marzán, and she is quick to admit how fortunate she is to be doing what she loves in Southwest Florida. “We get to make music in one of the most beautiful places in the world,” she exclaims excitedly. “It’s a blessing to share what we do with folks that truly appreciate it.”
