What Is Zydeco?

RSWLiving - - Get Away -

Zydeco is a fast- paced, toe- tapping southwest Louisiana musical form blending “la la” Creole music with rhythm and blues. The unusually fast tempo is dominated by the accordion and a form of a washboard or frottoir. Zydeco music was originally created at house dances, where families and friends gathered for socializing. “Fais Do- Do” is a name for a Cajun dance party. It literally means “Go to sleep” and was the request of mothers wanting their babies to go to sleep so they could join the party and dance.
