Serving Southwest Florida since 1916, Lee Memorial Health System has a long history of providing safe, high- quality, leading- edge, award- winning care. As your community health system, we are your family members, friends, and neighbors. In fact, today we are comprised of more than 10,500 employees, 1,200 community physicians, and 4,500 volunteers and auxilians.
Every day and night, thousands of caring people work hard to meet the health- care needs and improve the health status of the people of Southwest Florida. This is done in collaboration with staff from Lee Memorial Health System, physicians throughout the community, allied health- care professionals, and a network of medical and social- service partners.
Working together, we continually strive to develop programs, services, and partnerships to keep people close to home for the medical care they need. A great example of this is the Regional Cancer Center, which is a partnership between Lee Memorial Health System, 21st Century Oncology, and Florida Cancer Specialists. From the latest treatments and technology to holistic medicine, cancer patients can receive nearly every aspect of their care under one roof.
A network of local partners works together to provide basic health services to those with limited or no health insurance and to connect patients to additional affordable medical services. An example of this collaboration is the partnership between Lee Memorial Health System and the United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades.
Located in Dunbar, North Fort Myers, and Cape Coral, the Lee Physician Group United Way Houses are sliding fee– scale clinics that provide the uninsured and underinsured access to care and help patients proactively manage chronic conditions and avoid trips to the emergency department. Community residents can also count on the region’s only Level II Trauma Center, which provides lifesaving care twenty- four hours a day year- round to more than two thousand patients each year from Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Glades, and Hendry Counties.
The Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida delivers lifesaving and routine care for children, adolescents, and their families throughout our five- county area. Facing a challenging diagnosis, treatment, surgery, or recovery is made a bit easier without the concern of traveling great distances and leaving family and friends.
Through the generosity of our community, a successful capital campaign is under way with the planned expansion and construction of “America’s Newest Children’s Hospital” moving forward. With community support, we will continue to introduce more programs and services to keep our children healthy and close to home.
This issue of RSW Living shines a spotlight on the importance of health and wellness in our community. Stories focus on everything from the way medical facilities are designed to the dangers of antibiotic overuse. Readers can learn about new takes on the traditional road race, how to pedal their way around Lee County, and other ways to improve and maintain their health.
It is an honor for Lee Memorial Health System, one of the largest public- health systems in Florida, to serve the needs of our community, and we are proud to be here to care for our neighbors. We are caring people caring for people.
