ON- THE- JOB TRAINING

RSWLiving - - Making Waves - — Beth Luberecki

When graduates of Florida Gulf Coast University’s School of Resort & Hospitality Management secure their first full- time job, there’s a good chance they have Jennifer Jordan McGurk to thank. As the program’s internship coordinator, she helps students find and land their two required internships, with the hopes that the second one leads to full- time employment.

“It’s so satisfying to find a great match for the student that’s also a great match for the employer,” she says. “And then the next thing you know, a couple of years later the student’s in management [ at that employer].”

McGurk works with some 400 local business partners, everything from resorts and country clubs to event spaces and nonprofits, many of whom return to the internship program year after year. Her dedication to fulfilling the needs of both students and employers earned her FGCU’s 2013- 2014 Lutgert College of Business Outstanding Staff Award.

“I do it for the students, to make sure that they get a quality internship experience and a full- time position when they graduate,” she says. “Seeing them land great positions just brings so much joy and happiness to me.” 239- 590- 1000, fgcu. edu
