FMB Film Festival brings fresh perspectives, a tourist boost
The Fort Myers Beach Film Festival is returning for its 10year anniversary, bringing fresh perspectives in film to Fort Myers Beach. Showings run April 20 through April 24―attendees for $7 view screenings at the Fort Myers Beach Theater and free outdoor showings with receptions and an award ceremony, where filmmakers and other industry talents will gather. Films are deemed appropriate for every age. “The event has a tremendous impact on the beach community,” says Janeen Paulauskis, the film festival’s executive director. “It brings people to our beach after season―and we encourage them to extend their stay.”
The festival last year included some 70 filmmakers from across the country and overseas, which provided an opportunity for movie enthusiasts to get to know a few names in the industry. Paulauskis says filmmakers spend anywhere from $5,000 to $250,000 on making a movie, so some might not make it to the big screen, yet they deserve to be shown in front of an audience that appreciates the talent and the work.
The genres shown and awarded at the Fort Myers Beach Film Festival vary from independent, or indie, short and full-length feature films to documentaries. Additionally, committee members recognize a new talent in the industry with the Rising Star Award, as well as someone who has made a difference and gone the extra mile in the film world with the Star Achievement Award.
