The board voted unanimously to hire Glenn Hughes, ASA vice president for industry relations, tasked with overseeing ASA trade-show, membership, and marketing and communications efforts since 2013, to take on the role of president starting on April 1, 2018.

The announcement was made during the board of directors meeting at the 2017 Sportfishing Summit in October, shortly after current ASA President and CEO Mike Nussman made public his plans to retire at the end of March.

Hughes, an avid coastal angler who honed his saltwater fishing skills while living on the Jersey Shore and Florida, had this to say: “I pledge to do my very best to help improve our nation’s fisheries, increase participation in our sport, and serve the sport-fishing industry and the broader recreational fishing community in my new role.”

“Over the past four years, Glenn has demonstrated he has the skills and abilities required to lead our association. He brought a strong industry background to ASA and is very familiar with how our trade association functions, which makes him uniquely qualified to address economic and environmental issues impacting our industry,” said ASA board of directors chairman Kirk Immens.
