The Art of Kite-fishing

-

Once the details of launching kites and deploying baits are completed, it’s time to sit and wait for a fish to strike, right? Hardly! Fishing kite baits effectively demands attention and constant tinkering. Ideally, one angler should attend each rod; experienced hands may be able to handle two or three rods at once. The trick is to keep the baits at the surface — not submerged, and certainly not dangling in the air. Kites will rise and fall with the vagaries of the breeze, and every time they do, the lines carrying the baits need to be lengthened or shortened to keep the baits in place. Bright floats on leaders help you keep track of each one. This is active hands-on fishing, demanding its own set of tackle-handling skills.
