Benintendi fuels Red Sox’s victory
BOSTON — Andrew Benintendi homered and drove in three runs, helping the Boston Red Sox beat the Atlanta Braves 8-6 on Saturday.
The AL East-leading Red Sox celebrated the return of Dustin Pedroia with their sixth win in seven games. Mitch Moreland had a key two-run double, Steven Wright pitched three scoreless innings, and Craig Kimbrel got three outs for his 16th save.
The 34-year-old Pedroia went 0-for-4 with a walk and scored in his first game after offseason knee surgery.
ATHLETICS 3, DIAMONDBACKS 0: Daniel Mengden pitched a two-hitter for his second career shutout as Oakland beat visiting Arizona.
PHILLIES 2, BLUE JAYS 1: Aaron Nola took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, Nick Williams hit his third pinch-hit homer of the year in the eighth, and Philadelphia moved into first in the NL East with a win over visiting Toronto.
WHITE SOX 8, TIGERS 4: Tim Anderson homered twice on his way to a career-high four RBIs, leading Hector Santiago and Chicago to a victory at Detroit.
ANGELS 11, YANKEES 4: Mike Trout homered and doubled three times during his first five-hit game in the majors as Los Angeles quickly erased an early deficit to win at New York.
BREWERS 17, METS 6: Erik Kratz homered in his debut, and Milwaukee blew out visiting New York for its eighth win in 10 games.
NATIONALS 4, MARLINS 1: Mark Reynolds hit a tiebreaking homer leading off the ninth as Washington rallied to top host Miami for the 10th consecutive time.
CARDINALS 4, PIRATES 1: Jack Flaherty allowed four hits over six innings, Matt Carpenter hit his fifth home run of the season, and St. Louis won at Pittsburgh.
RAYS 5, ORIOLES 1: Ryne Stanek, Anthony Banda and Chaz Roe combined to give up three hits on a bullpen day as Tampa Bay topped visiting Baltimore.
GIANTS 5, CUBS 4: Brandon Crawford hit a two-run homer, Brandon Belt drove in two runs, and visiting San Francisco ended a three-game slide.
