Crew not moving to Austin after all
Major League Soccer announced late Friday that it had reached an agreement to transfer control of the Columbus
Crew to a group led by Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam that has pledged to keep the team in Ohio.
The deal will prevent the Crew’s threatened move to Austin and end an ugly fight that had driven a wedge between the team’s fans and the organization. But it won’t stop the MLS from coming to Austin — the city is now slated to get an expansion team, so San Antonio’s path to soccer’s top tier in the U.S. remains blocked.
