Player of the year

SIERRA WANNAMAKER

School: Madison

Position, grade: Defender, senior

College: Incarnate Word Honors: Selected as the E-N Player of the Year for the second straight season … District 27-6A MVP.

Highlights: Wannamaker anchored a defense that allowed five goals in 21 matches. She sparked the offense from the back and recorded 12 goals and five assists. She also marked the opponent’s most dangerous scoring threat each match.

Also considered for E-N honor: Johnson’s Khori Banks, Medina Valley’s Audra Clark and Madison’s Jillian Martinez

Coach of the year

MICHAEL BABCOCK

School: Madison

Head coaching experience: Just completed fourth season at Madison. Headed Holmes’ boys program for six years prior to that. Highlights: Babcock guided Madison to a 20-1 mark as the Mavericks captured the District 27-6A championsh­ip, their first league title since 2000. Although the coronaviru­s pandemic ended their season with two matches remaining in the regular season, the Mavericks secured their first playoff spot since 2004. Madison outscored opponents, 98-5, and was the E-N’s top-ranked team when the season stopped.
