Tornado causes severe damage

Storms, including a tornado, caused severe damage Friday night.

Bowie, 65 miles northwest of Fort Worth, was hit by a tornado at 9 p.m. Friday, the National Weather Service confirmed Saturday. Winds were estimated at up to 95 mph.

Mayor Gaylynn Burris told the Bowie News that at least 50 businesses and at least that many homes in the town of 5,000 residents were damaged.

Severe storms also dropped hail as large as softballs near Wichita Falls, damaging roofs and vehicles.
