Leaf jailed on charge of domestic battery

-

Former NFL quarterback turned college football analyst Ryan Leaf was arrested Friday on a domestic battery charge in Palm Desert, Calif. As of Saturday afternoon, he remained jailed in Riverside County in lieu of $5,000 bail. No details on the case have been released.

He finished third in Heisman Trophy voting in 1997 and led Washington State to the Rose Bowl. He was drafted by the San Diego Chargers as the No. 2 pick in 1998, but he was only 4-14 as a starter in three seasons. He was 0-3 with the Dallas Cowboys in 2001 and finished his four-year career with 14 touchdown passes and 36 interceptions.

Leaf, 44, was on probation in Texas when he was arrested in 2012 for breaking into a home in Montana to steal prescription drugs, which led to prison.

Mahomes cheers on Tech grads: Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes advised graduating Texas Tech students to “go out and win your Super Bowl’’ at the university’s virtual commencement ceremony Saturday. “Whatever plans lie in front of you, I have no doubt you will go out there and show the world what it means to come from Lubbock, Texas,” he said.
