Constantino’s pumps up the pepperoni
Greasy, cheesy and foldable, these pies are a solid option
SOMERSET — Loading a stack of pizzas into his car, owner Ned Waldie put a face to the reason Constantino’s Pizza rates as a solid neighborhood option. From its roadside perch in Somerset southwest of San Antonio, Constantino’s is the pizza lifeline for the surrounding Somerset, Southside and Southwest school districts.
Even though the shop has suspended deliveries for now, Waldie’s still willing to take a big lunch order to teachers working behind the scenes during the COVID-19 pandemic. In better times, a busy holiday party lunch at the schools might send up to 600 pizzas through Constantino’s shiny Lincoln conveyor ovens, he said.
Even if the schools aren’t holding classes and the dining room at Constantino’s is closed, the takeout business is still going strong for pizza, pasta, wings and sandwiches from the 14-year-old business owned by Waldie, Rob Constantine and Mike Lujan.
