We see disease, poverty and injustice, and we are moved to make tomorrow better

- By Alexandra Purchatzke . Alexandra Purchatzke is valedictorian of Champion High School in Boerne.

people I have ever met: future lawyers, doctors, teachers, scientists, Supreme Court justices, trailblazers in all fields.

All the greats started off as students, just like us.

Looking back on the past four years, this graduating class is with no doubt the most accomplished, determined, impressive class to come out of Champion High School. We had state qualifiers in Mock Trial (woot woot), state semifinalists in football, plus many other achievements in sports, academics and the arts

No doubt there would have been more were it not for quarantine. And there is so much more that I cannot wait to see us accomplish.

Our generation draws many parallels to the “greatest generation” that we learned about in history class. Although we are not fighting a world war like those of the greatest generation, we are fighting a war against disease, poverty and injustice. Just as the greatest generation came out of the fight stronger, we will fight this global crisis and come out of it inspired.

In this era of mass media and communication, we see the challenges and suffering around the world, and we are pushed to find solutions.

Every day I see people our age shaping society — advocating social change, achieving technological breakthroughs and accomplishing whatever we set our mind to. I know our collective efforts will help guide us to a better tomorrow.

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s quote about the greatest generation rings true to ours as well. He said, “There is a mysterious cycle in human events. To some generations much is given. Of other generations much is expected. This generation of Americans has a rendezvous with destiny.”

As we begin our transition into adulthood, full of uncertainty in our future, remember, as both Dr. Anthony Fauci and the cast of “High School Musical” said, “We’re all in this together.”

I cannot wait to see what we will accomplish.
