Cancellations after Spring Break brought sadness and frustration

years. I’m a part of NHS, NTHS and the student council.

Since COVID-19 started and our Spring Break was extended, I began to feel sad. Our prom was scheduled for March 28 but unfortunately it was postponed. That’s when the officers and I realized all the hours we had put into prom — not only the planning but all the money we’ve raised — was kind of pointless.

And then we began to think about how we won’t be able to do any of our senior activities.

They continue to postpone our prom and push it back, and our graduation will now be limited to only bringing four guests. My siblings alone are 11, so I’m kind of disappointed.

The way we ended this semester was stressful for everyone. The transition to online learning became more about turning in work than learning. Teachers would give us assignment after assignment with no help, no teaching. They’d just attach a link and expect us to know from there.

Imagine asking for more help and getting another random link. By that point you feel stupid for not getting the content, or you feel like a bother for asking for more help. It became overwhelming.

Although we do understand that it was as new to everyone as it was to us, there could have been a few changes.

Overall, I believe the worst part of this transition was that I couldn’t tell my friends and teachers goodbye. I wasn’t able to tell my team how proud I am of how far they’ve gotten. I wasn’t able to play my last match. The next time I see some of them will probably be the last time I see them on our graduation day.

I really missed out on many memories with my peers. I knew some of them since elementary, I knew some of them through a hard time in my life. We were a family.

They say that “high school is the best days of your life.” Well, I’ve spent them asleep in bed, so I guess it’s not too bad, but I do hope I had all the memories everyone else had — all the memories everyone talks about.
