Re: “Licenses aren’t a right” and “Gun bill in alignment,” Your Turn, April 25:

So many people defend the Second Amendment by only quoting part of it. Yes, it does mention “the right of the people to keep and bear arms” — but it also says “a well-regulated militia.”

A license is required to drive a car to ensure you can safely operate it. A license should be required to use a gun to ensure you can safely operate it. Why are people against making sure people know how to use a gun safely?

In the same manner that you need insurance to drive, wouldn’t it help to require insurance to use a gun?
