When and where Texans can get the COVID-19 vaccine
Supplies are increasing and more locations offer walk-in access to inoculations. We update this guide daily to give you what you need to know:
Who can get it now?
All Texans 16 and older are eligible to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
If I qualify, where can I get it?
You can make an appointment with a pharmacy, hospital, clinic or other provider. The city offers text alerts about opportunities to get appointments with public providers — to sign up, text Vaccine or, for alerts in Spanish, Vacuna, to 55000.
Providers are listed on a map on the Texas Department of
State Health Services COVID-19 vaccine information page at bit.ly/2Jvpru3. Scroll down to “How to Find Vaccine” for a list of locator tools. Call ahead to make sure a provider has doses available.
VIA Metropolitan Transit offers free rides to or from an appointment at a city- or countysponsored COVID-19 vaccination site. Check VIAinfo.net for the latest service updates.
These providers offer walk-in access:
City: People 16 and older can get vaccinated without appointments from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at the Alamodome drive-thru site. Metropolitan Health District also is holding three pop-up mobile vaccine clinics: New Life Christian Center, 6610 W. U.S. 90, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday;
St. Henry Catholic Church, 1619 S. Flores St., from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday; and Trinity Lutheran Church, 5520 S. Flores
St., 10 a.m. to 6 .m. May 10. No appointment is needed. The city and Healthcare Access San Antonio also have a vaccine waitlist open to all Texas adults (with priority going to those 65 and older). Register online in English at sanantonio.gov/waitlist or in
Spanish at sanantonio.gov/ listadeespera. To register by phone, call 311 and select option 8 or call 210-207-6000 to speak with an operator. Phone lines are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Registrants’ information will be in a secure database accessed only by vaccine providers, who will email or call them to schedule appointments. More info is at bit.ly/35E0u7y.
H-E-B: Check availability at vaccine.heb.com. All H-E-B pharmacies are now welcoming walk-ins without appointments from 3-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
South Texas Veterans
Health Care System: Veterans, their spouses, their caregivers and Department of Veterans Affairs employees may show up without appointments at the Wonderland of the Americas mall, 4522 Fredericksburg Road, to get vaccinated from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays. Go to the former Stein Mart location at 4522 Fredericksburg Road, Suite B-90. If veterans or employees prefer to schedule an appointment, they may contact the VA’s scheduling center at 210-949-9702. Visit www.southtexas.va.gov or the system’s Facebook page.
University Health: Appointments available at wecandoit sa.com for the vaccine clinic at Wonderland of the Americas mall. A limited number of vaccines are available for walk-ins from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays at the Wonderland clinic’s lower level. Walk-ins also are accepted at the Robert B. Green campus, 903 W. Martin St., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays only. A separate clinic at St. Philip’s College is giving only second doses from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through May 14 and is open only to those who received first doses there. Photo identification required at all three sites.
Adult must accompany those ages 16 or 17. Call 210-644-1960 for information.
UT Health San Antonio: Appointments are available to anyone 16 and older to receive the Pfizer vaccine. Register at schedule.utmedicinesa.com. Walk-ins without appointments are accepted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays at the School of Nursing Hurd Auditorium, 7703 Floyd Curl Drive. Priority is being given to people 80 and older.
NEW — WellMed: Taking reservations for both the twodose Moderna and the singledose Johnson & Johnson vaccines for appointments at the Cisneros Senior Community Activity Center, 517 SW Military. To sign up for the Moderna vaccine, go to signup.com/go/ TYKxGUs and for the J&J one, go to signup.com/go/ AspRTdN. Walk-ins will be accepted from 1 to 4 p.m. weekdays based on availability. The following providers require appointments:
Baptist Health System: Offering the Pfizer vaccine at various hospital campuses through May 12. Appointments available at baptisthealthsystem.com/ our-response-to-covid-19/ covid-19-vaccine-registration. Ages 16-17 must have parental consent.
CentroMed: Go to www. centromedsa.com to check for availability and schedule an appointment. You can also call 210-334-3820 to schedule an appointment.
Christus Santa Rosa Health
System: Appointments are made through an online chat function at vaccinate.christushealth .org, which screens for eligibility — if it does not appear, no appointments are available.
Comal County: Registration open for mass vaccine clinics on Thursday and May 19 at the New Braunfels Convention Center. Clinics are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information and to register, go to co.co mal.tx.us. Those without computer access can call 830-6205575.
CommuniCare Health Centers: Drive-thru vaccinations from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday. Pre-register by calling 210-4850848 or email DST-EETC@ala mo.edu — someone will contact you with an assigned date and time.
CVS: Check availability at CVS.com or through the CVS Pharmacy mobile app; registration is required. Those without online access can call CVS customer service at 800-746-7287.
San Antonio Military Health System: Brooke Army Medical Center has same-day vaccine appointments available for all Tricare beneficiaries 16 and older. Check www.tricare online.com for appointments or call 210-9169900 or 800-443-2262, option 8, from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center also is letting all Tricare beneficiaries 16 and older make appointments, including those without medical conditions. Updates at bamc.tricare.mil and through social media and secure messaging.
Schertz: Offering appointments to get first doses of the Pfizer vaccine from 4:40 to 7:20 p.m. on Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 8 at 1400 Schertz Parkway, Building 5. Go to schertz.com/covidvaccine to sign up. You do not have to be a Schertz resident.
Walgreens: Check availability at Walgreens.com/Sched uleVaccine. No walk-ins.
Walmart, Sam’s Club: Vaccines are being offered at many Walmart and Sam’s Club stores in the San Antonio area. Schedule appointments online at wal mart.com/cp/1228302 and at samsclub.com/pharmacy.
How much does it cost?
The vaccine is free, regardless of insurance status.
