Like many homes in her neighborhood, Stiles’ house has high ceilings, lots of tall windows, and a sunken living room. She said Braun Station is definitely a place where you can get to know your neighbors. She’s had the same next-door neighbors for 20 years. “I hold National Night Out in my front yard every year and everyone on the street comes.”
Carolyn Thronson and her husband, Bob, moved into their two-story Braun Station East home on Memorial Day in 1977. Thronson said Braun Station
East was the community’s first subdivision and she and her husband were among its first residents. Like her neighbor, Carrie Stiles, Thronson fell in love with the area’s oak trees. “Originally this had been a dairy farm,” Thronson said. “It was really pretty, and it was not too far from 410.” Back then, she said Loop 1604 was just a little two-lane highway, and there was one traffic light at Bandera Road and Huebner. “It just built up all around us, it’s just incredible,” Thronson said. “There are a lot of commercial businesses around us now that make it more convenient for shopping.”
Braun Station residents don’t have to drive far to get to H-E-B, a library branch and several parks, including O.P. Schnabel Park at 9606 Bandera Road. The 202-acre park, formerly known as Bandera Road Park, includes biking and walking trails, pavilions, playgrounds, a pool, baseball and soccer fields. The park also has a YMCA. Nearby Nani Falcone Community Park, 8717 Mystic Park, has a skate park, dog park, and disc golf course. Popular tourist attractions such as The La Cantera Golf Club, The Shops of La Cantera, and Six Flags Fiesta Texas are within approximately 10 miles.
“I just love the area,” Thronson said. “It’s just a nice neighborhood to live in.”
