The Express-News reached out to athletic directors and campus coordinators to compile a list of student-athletes who graduated as valedictorians and salutatorians of their classes. This list is based on information they provided.

VALEDICTORIANS

MATTHEW GARCIA

School: Pleasanton

Notable: Garcia played four years of varsity golf and was a three-time regional qualifier. He was part of the Eagles’ team that advanced to the Class 4A state tournament in 2021. He was the golf team MVP in 2020 and co-MVP in 2021. Garcia also played one season of varsity baseball and was a pitcher. He will attend Texas Tech and study finance.

CRISTINA KEIFABER

School: Incarnate Word

Notable: Kiefaber played basketball. She was named as a National Merit Scholarship Program Commended Student.

EMMA KIRCHHOFF

School: Smithson Valley

Notable: Kirchhoff completed on the Rangers’ swimming team and is a National Merit Scholar semifinalist.

JARED LAQUE

School: Medina Valley

Notable: Played football and baseball. All-district pick as a offensive lineman and a unanimous all-district selection as a pitcher.

JORDAN LYSSY

School: Poth

Notable: Lyssy was a state qualifier in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. She was also part of the Pirettes’ volleyball team that advanced to the regional finals.

EMILY MARTINEZ

School: Fox Tech

Notable: Martinez played girls basketball at Fox Tech.

CAITLYN MOTT

School: Canyon Lake

Notable: Mott participated in track and field.

BROOKE RUNYAN

School: Devine

Notable: Runyan won the Class 4A state girls singles championship in May. Runyan, who will play tennis at Texas-Permian Basin, also played volleyball at Devine.

MADELYN SIMPSON

School: San Antonio Christian

Notable: Simpson played tennis. The National Merit Scholar finalist will attend Texas A&M.

MIKKI URBAN

School: Lutheran

Notable: Urban participated in volleyball, basketball softball and track.

LEVOLEA WALLACE

School: Sam Houston

Notable: Competed in volleyball, basketball, softball and track. She will attend Trinity.
