Air Force flies past Navy in the second half

- WIRE REPORTS

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Brad Roberts ran for two touchdowns and Haaziq Daniels added one, and Air Force held Navy to one first down before the fourth quarter in a 23-3 victory Saturday.

This was the earliest meeting in series history between these teams. It was scheduled for Saturday so it would be played on the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Roberts ran for a 3-yard TD in the second quarter, and Daniels scored on a 28-yard run in the final minute of the third. That was plenty of offense for Air Force (2-0) on a day the Falcons held Navy (0-2) without a completed pass through the first three quarters.

Roberts added another touchdown on a 2-yard run in the fourth. The Midshipmen changed quarterbacks after that, and Maasai Maynor immediately threw a 15-yard pass to Mychal Cooper for Navy's first completion and second first down of the game.

Navy finished with only 68 yards of offense.

This game is usually played in early October, but this year it was played Saturday on CBS. The pregame pageantry felt even more meaningful on this day. The players took the field carrying American flags before the game. At halftime, the names of Navy and Air Force grads lost on 9/11 were put on the videoboard.

Christian Anderson rushed for a career-high 119 yards and passed for a touchdown and Army survived a rally by the Hilltoppers in West Point, N.Y.

Trailing 35-14 midway through the second quarter, WKU (1-1) closed the gap to seven points on Bailey Zappe's 14-yard pass to Jerreth Sterns with just under five minutes remaining in the game. But Army (2-0) recovered a WKU onside kick and Cole Talley kicked a 31-yard field goal, giving

the Black Knights the cushion they needed after the Hilltoppers scored a touchdown with 21 seconds left.

OKLAHOMA STATE 28, TULSA 23

Jaylen Warren shed three tackles to punch in an 11-yard touchdown run that gave the

Cowboys enough insurance to beat the Golden Hurricane in Stillwater, Okla.

The Cowboys trailed 14-7 entering the fourth quarter, but took control of the nonconference game with a Spencer Sanders touchdown throw, LD Brown's 98-yard kickoff return for a score and Warren's late run.

TCU 34, CALIFORNIA 32

Quentin Johnston caught two of Max Duggan's three touchdown passes, with the go-ahead score coming on a nifty catchand-run as the Horned Frogs remain undefeated against Pac-12 teams under coach Gary Patterson.

Johnston put the Horned Frogs (2-0) ahead to stay with a 45-yard TD catch with 9:53 left, when he twisted around one defender who fell down near the 30 and then shed the attempted tackle by another inside the 10. Johnston finished with five catches for 95 yards.
