NAOMI LUCILLE (BROCKMAN) BROWN

Naomi Lucille (Brockman) Brown was born in Gillett, Texas in 1929. Soon after her birth her family moved to San Antonio where she grew up and graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1947. While at Brackenridge, she played the flute in the marching band. She was recognized for scholarship, service and leadership as a member of several honor societies. Her active friendships with lifelong friends kept her happy and engaged throughout her life.

Shortly after high school, she met and married the love of her life, Doyle Eugene Brown. They had two children, Cindy and Keith, and remained happily together for 67 years. Naomi graduated from Trinity University in 1951 with a degree in Business Administration where she was active in Delta Kappa Phi and Kappa Pi Sigma. She also received a Master’s Degree in Education from Our Lady of the Lake. She was a devoted educator and encouraged everyone, especially young teachers to pursue advanced degrees.

Naomi and Doyle were avid adventurers and spent the early years of their marriage traveling making life-long friends in Chicago while Doyle attended Art School and in Germany while he served in the Army. During her time in Germany, she loved to welcome visitors and share her joy of German culture and travel. She and Doyle crossed Europe on multiple trips, in their “Grey Goose”, a Citroen. They shared an appreciation and love of art, culture, people, and food. They continued their spirit of adventure and love of travel with their two children taking family road trips across America each summer in a Volkswagen Camper.

Her daughter, Cynthia Lynn Brown, and son, Keith Harrison Brown, were her pride and joy. Her home was a place where neighbors, family, and friends were always welcome and loved. As she transitioned to end of life she was cared for in the comforts of her loving home, with her devoted son by her side. Her son in law, Morgan Lee McLemore shared her love of the Spurs, and the whole family watched and cheered them on, never missing an important game. She adored her Grandson, Morgan Eugene McLemore, and was a wonderful grandma.

Her role as a leader in education was noteworthy. She became a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Theta Beta Chapter in 1970 and worked as a member for 51 years to promote professionalism and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. She served as President for two years and Treasurer for ten years.

In her career as an educator, she held positions in the Edgewood School District where she worked for 27 years from 1964-1991. She held positions as Elementary School Principal at Henry B. Gonzales, Roosevelt Elementary, Coronado Elementary, Winston Elementary, Guerra Elementary, and Cenizo Park Elementary.

She is survived by her children Cynthia Lynn McLemore, son Keith Harrison Brown, son-inlaw Morgan McLemore, and grandson Morgan Eugene McLemore. A memorial ceremony

will be held at Trinity University’s Parker Chapel on September 18th at 2pm, where masks will be required.
