- By Lisa Harrison Rivas / Staff Writer

As home prices continue to soar in this atypical housing market, the idea of finding a house with highquality custom features for the price of a starter home sounds like fantasy. It might sound like a dream but, it’s not. Strawberry Fields, a new subdivision in Poteet, is real and offers homebuyers just that. The unique deve lo pmen tisafir s tf o rthe quiet Atascosa County community known as the Strawberry Capital of Texas. The family-friendly city of about 3,400 residents gets attention for its annual Strawberry Festival and colorful strawberry water tower. It is also the birthplace of country music legend George Strait.

Poteet is about 38 miles south of downtown San Antonio on FM 476 and Texas 16. The subdivision at 1001 FM 1470 is across the street from all four campuses in the Poteet Independent School District. Construction has already begun on this 183-acre site, and one of the model homes is nearly complete. The community will consist of approximately 364 one-story single-family homes. Prices range from the $220s to the $380s.

Strawberry Fields is the vision of developer and custom homebuilder Jay Parker. Most of his projects have been in the Boerne area, but Parker said he always wanted to build an affordable subdivision where the houses were similar to custombuilt homes. A vision he shares with business partners Bobby and Renee Girling of San Antonio.

“All of this was a desire of mine to deliver this kind of product for people
