Doege, Brown lift West Virginia over No. 22 Iowa St.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Jarret Doege threw three touchdown passes, Leddie Brown ran for two scores and West Virginia upset No. 22 Iowa State 38-31 on Saturday.

West Virginia (4-4, 2-3 Big 12) came alive on offense after averaging 20 points in its first four conference games.

Iowa State (5-3, 3-2) was missing leading tackler Mike Rose because of an undisclose­d injury and the league’s top defense gave up a season-high 492 yards. The linebacker had started all 45 previous games in his career. The Cyclones had kept their seven previous opponents under 350 yards.

Breece Hall rushed for 167 yards, including a 70-yard TD on Iowa State’s third play from scrimmage. But he fumbled reaching for the end zone in a pile of players for the potential tying touchdown with about 6 minutes left and West Virginia’s Alonzo Addae recovered. The play held up upon review.

Doege completed 30 of 46 passes for 370 yards. Brown finished with 109 yards, including a pair of touchdown runs.

NO. 4 OKLAHOMA 52 TEXAS TECH 21

Caleb Williams threw for 402 yards and six touchdowns and the Sooners finally put together a complete game, rolling past the Red Raiders at Norman,

The true freshman quarterbac­k tied Kyler Murray and Landry Jones for the second-most touchdown passes in a game in school history. Baker Mayfield threw seven against Texas Tech in 2016.

Marvin Mims caught four passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns, and Mario Williams had five receptions for 100 yards and a score to help the Sooners (9-0, 6-0 Big 12) extend their nation-leading winning streak to 17 games.

Oklahoma held Texas Tech to 373 yards of total offense and forced three turnovers.

Donovan Smith passed for 192 yards for the Red Raiders (5-4, 2-4) in Sonny Cumbie’s first game as interim coach since Matt Wells was fired. Erik Ezukanma caught eight passes for 123 yards and a touchdown.

KANSAS ST. 31, TCU 12

Kansas State’s Felix AnudikeUzo­mah matched the Football Bowl Subdivisio­n record with six sacks and forced two fumbles against the Horned Frogs, leading the Wildcats to a win at home.

Anudike-Uzomah, whose safety last week against Texas Tech jumpstarte­d the Wildcats’ comeback win, broke the school record of four sacks set by Chris Johnson against Missouri in 2000.

Skylar Thompson threw for 242 yards and a touchdown while also running for a score, and Deuce Vaughn added 109 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, as the Wildcats (5-3, 2-3 Big 12) beat TCU (3-5, 1-4) for the third straight time.

The Horned Frogs’ Max Duggan was just 9 of 13 for 73 yards before getting benched in the third quarter.

LOUISIANA 45, TEXAS STATE 0

The Bobcats were shut out for the first time in 19 years in a loss at Lafayette, La.

Bobcats quarterbac­k Tyler Vitt, a MacArthur product, started for the first time this year and completed 6 of 13 passes for 42 yards with an intercepti­on. He added 94 yards on 15 carries, while Brock Sturges rushed seven times for 44 yards and Calvin Hill notched seven carries for 27 yards.

Texas State (2-6, 1-3 Sun Belt) was limited to 220 yards and lost a pair of fumbles, while Louisiana (7-1, 5-0) racked up 425 yards of offense.

TEXAS LUTHERAN 20 EAST TEXAS BAPTIST 13

The Bulldog defense shut out East Texas Baptist in the second half to come from behind for a win at Ornelas Stadium in Marshall.

The Tigers (4-4, 3-4 American Southwest Conference) went up 13-3 in the second quarter and led 13-6 at halftime. But the Bulldogs (3-5, 3-4) scored 14 unanswered points in the third quarter, with DaKory Willis running for a 42-yard touchdown and Seth Cosme hitting Jacob Forton for a 10-yard scoring pass.

NORTH TEXAS 30, RICE 24 (OT)

Ayo Adeyi had two touchdown runs from short yardage, including one in overtime to give the Mean Green a victory over the Owls in Houston.

Christian VanSickle missed a 46-yard field goal attempt for Rice (3-5, 2-2 Conference USA), which had the first possession on OT.

Adeyi scored from the 1 on the ensuing series and North Texas (2-6, 1-3) ended a six-game losing streak. Isaiah Johnson’s 6-yard TD run gave the Mean Green a 24-17 lead with 2:03 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Jake Constantin­e was 16-of-30 passing for 242 yards and threw two touchdown passes. Jake Bailey finished with 10 catches for 143 yards and a score.
