Michigan tops Ohio St. for first time in 9 years

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Hassan Haskins scored five touchdowns and Aidan Hutchinson had three sacks, helping No. 5 Michigan finally beat No. 2 Ohio State 42-27 on Saturday to give Jim Harbaugh his first win as a coach against the Buckeyes.

“It feels like the best one,“Harbaugh said.

The Wolverines clinched the Big Ten East and will play in the conference title game next week with playoff hopes in hand after snapping an eight-game losing streak to Ohio State.

Michigan (11-1, 8-1 Big Ten, No. 5 CFP) advanced to the conference championsh­ip for the first time. The Wolverines now have a chance to win a Big Ten title for the first time since 2004 and a national championsh­ip for the first time since 1997.

Ohio State had a schoolreco­rd winning streak in the rivalry, taking 15 of 16 to turn The Game into its game. But the Buckeyes (10-2, 8-1) blew their chances to continue their dominance with 10 penalties and because they simply couldn’t stop Michigan’s running game.

NO. 1 GEORGIA 45 GEORGIA TECH 0

Stetson Bennett passed for 255 yards and four touchdowns in Atlanta to help the Bulldogs cap a perfect regular season, then shifted his attention to next week’s much-anticipate­d SEC championsh­ip game against No. 3 Alabama in Atlanta

“It’s a big accomplish­ment,” Bennett said. “Now the real fun starts.”

In the rivalry known as “Clean Old-Fashioned Hate,” the Bulldogs (12-0) played a clean game with no turnovers or penalties.

It is the first undefeated regular season for the Bulldogs since 1982, when they capped a streak of three consecutiv­e SEC championsh­ips with tailback Herschel Walker.

Georgia Tech (3-9) finished

with just three wins for the third consecutiv­e season.

NO. 2 ALABAMA 24 AUBURN 22 (4OT)

The Crimson Tide tied the Iron Bowl on a spectacula­r 28-yard touchdown catch by Ja’Corey Brooks with 24 seconds left, then outlasted the Tigers in four overtimes to win in Birmingham.

Alabama had trailed from the second quarter

on and never led in regulation, but got back in the game with a 10-0 run in the final nine minutes of the fourth quarter.

NO. 11 OREGON 38 OREGON STATE 29

Anthony Brown Jr. threw for 275 yards and two touchdown and ran for a score as the Ducks won at home to clinch the Pac-12 North Division and claim a spot in the conference championsh­ip game.

The Ducks (10-2, 7-2) will face No. 16 Utah in Las Vegas on Friday.

Oregon was coming off a 38-7 loss to Utah that dropped it from No. 3 in the College Football Playoff rankings to No. 11 and out of contention for a national title.

Washington State, which beat Washington 40-13 in the Apple Cup on Friday, needed the Beavers (7-5, 5-4) to beat the Ducks to win the division.

NO. 12 MICHIGAN STATE 30 PENN STATE 27

Payton Thorne threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score to lead the Spartans to a home victory

Kenneth Walker III rushed for 138 yards and a TD on 30 carries to help the Spartans (10-2, 7-2 Big Ten) bounce back from a 56-7 loss to Ohio State.

NO. 18 WAKE FOREST 41 BOSTON COLLEGE 10

The Demon Deacons got three passing touchdowns and one more on the ground from Sam Hartman to win in Boston and earn a spot in the ACC championsh­ip game.

Wake Forest (10-2, 7-1 ACC) will try to claim its first league title since 2006 when it faces No. 17 Pittsburgh on Dec. 4.

NO. 20 N.C. STATE 34 NORTH CAROLINA 30

Devin Leary threw two touchdown passes in a 26-second span, with the host Wolfpack recovering an onside kick in between, to stun the Tar Heels on Friday night.

With N.C. State down 30-21, Leary found Emeka Emezie on a busted coverage for a 64-yard touchdown strike with 1:33 left. The Wolfpack recovered the onside kick, then Leary threw a 24-yard sideline pass to Emezie with 1:09 remaining for the winning score.

N.C. State temporaril­y stayed alive in the ACC Atlantic Division race with the victory but was eliminated with Wake Forest’s win Saturday.
