NEW BRAUNFELS — Brennan’s high-scoring offense rolled on for another week with a 59-36 victory over Austin Bowie in a Class 6A Division I regional semifinal Friday at Canyon High School.

Junior quarterback Ashton Dubose passed for six touchdowns and rushed for a seventh score as the Bears surpassed 50 points for the seventh straight time.

The Bears (13-0) are enjoying their best season since moving up to Class 6A eight years ago. Brennan hasn’t advanced this far in the postseason since making it to the Class 4A (now 5A) Division I state final in 2013.

“We knew we had a chance to be a real good team this year,” Brennan coach Steve Basore said. “We want to continue to do our thing. We knew we had a good offense, and we want that trend to continue.”

The Bears face Austin Lake Travis (11-2) in a state quarterfinal at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dripping Springs.

Brennan has scored at least 50 points in eight games and 60 twice. Brennan nearly reached 60 on Friday with Dubose utilizing many targets, including three touchdown passes to twin Aaron Dubose.

“He’s my brother, so we’ve playing with each other since we were little,” said Aaron Dubose, who caught six passes for 114 yards. “Our connection, our chemistry, everything is there.”

Dubose caught a 63-yard touchdown in the first quarter that tied the game at 7. He also caught scores from 7and 17 yards.

Senior receiver Jaheim Lard caught touchdowns of 15 and 11 yards, and Armando Acevedo had a 14-yard scoring catch.

“We’re a very versatile team,” Aaron Dubose said. “We have plenty of receivers and plenty of running backs. That’s what makes it so hard to stop us.”

Dubose added an 8-yard TD run, and Jason Love scored on a 3-yard TD run.

“Offensively, we have a lot of guys that can play, and a lot of weapons to throw to,” Basore said. “We have multiple guys who can make plays. I think this season every receiver has been player of the week, our quarterback has been player of the week, our running back has been player of the week. Again, it’s great to have guys who can make plays.”

Basore added that the Bears offensive line has been important all season.

“The O-line doesn’t get enough credit,” Basore said.

The Bears outgained Bowie 460-395 in total yardage.

Ashton Dubose threw for 318 yards on 17-of-27 passing and rushed for 85 yards on 15 carries.

Ashton Dubose has passed 3,394 yards and 51 touchdowns with only one interception this season. He is also the Bears’ leading rusher with 918 yards and 15 touchdowns.

After Bowie cut it to 24-21

on Max Barnes’ 1-yard scoring run in the third quarter, the Bears scored touchdowns on their next five possessions to put it away.

Brennan forced three turnovers, including two interceptions of Bowie quarterback Conner Kenyon.

Next up for the Bears is San Antonio-area nemesis Austin Lake Travis. The Cavaliers

are 12-0 against area teams in the playoffs since 2016, including a win over East Central in this year’s first round. Lake Travis also beat Judson in the second week of the regular season.

Lake Travis, which beat Laredo United South 35-19 on Friday, has allowed a total of 40 points in three playoff games.

“Lake Travis is a great defensive team, and it’s not going to come easy,” Basore said. “But we have a lot of guys who can make plays, and it puts a lot of stress on the defense. We have a multifaceted, dynamic quarterback that can throw and scramble and run. We’re able to execute in a lot of ways, and that’s great for our team.”
