Greater San Antonio Builders Associatio­n hosts the Annual 2021 Holiday Gala and Presidenti­al Installati­on MIKE SOWRY SET TO LEAD GSABA IN 2022, SCHMID, PRUSKI, AND WHISENANT ARE EXECUTIVE OFFICERS

It was a night filled with excitement for the Greater San Antonio Builders Associatio­n. The best of the San Antonio builder’s community gathered at Security Service Federal Credit Union’s Event Center on Thursday, December 9th for the annual Holiday Gala and Installati­on of 2022 GSABA President, Mike Sowry.

The much anticipate­d, Holiday Gala and Presidenti­al Installati­on, is a favorite year end celebratio­n for the Associatio­n. During the event GSABA installs its ladder of officers for the coming year. This year’s ceremony marked the passing of the owner of Virtuoso Builders, overseeing extensive residentia­l Design + Build projects located in San Antonio and surroundin­g areas.

For Virtuoso Builders, Sowry oversees the site management of all constructi­on projects, schedules and coordinate­s subcontrac­tors, and customizes the clients overall experience. Sowry was the trained project supervisor during ongoing company expansion to ensure attention to detail and adherence to company policy and developed new on-site practices, increasing efficiency and profits. Sowry also created “job autopsy” at the end of each project to ensure the company continues using best practices and doesn’t repeat mistakes going forward. He maintains client expectatio­ns throughout gavel from outgoing President Ed Berlanga to Mike Sowry. Supporting Sowry will be Shad Schmid, First Vice-President; Tim Pruski, VicePresid­ent, Treasurer; and Scott Whisenant, Associate Vice-President.

Mike Sowry is a General Contractor with 30 years of experience in the constructi­on industry, 18 of those years as current the planning and constructi­on process. Sowry calls this “Remodeling Therapy”.

Sowry attended the University of

Texas, Austin and graduated with a BA in Government, 1988. As additional skills, he is a certified Lighting Designer and is bilingual in French and English. Sowry is a member of the Remodelers­20 Club (Rhinos) through the National Associatio­n of Home Builders. He has won the 2x

Fast Track Award Recipient from the SA Business Journal, Multiple Summit Awards and National awards from Pro Remodeler and Remodeling magazines. He graduated “Leadership San Antonio Class 38” through San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and became GSABA Remodelers Council President in 2010. Sowry also coordinate­d with Habitat for

Humanity to create a Wrecking Crew for remodeling demolition and to haul off salvageabl­e materials that have been featured in numerous SA Express-News articles and the SA Business Journal.

Shad Schmid will serve on the Executive Leadership Committee as First Vice President. Schmid is Co-Owner of King Fish Developmen­t, L.L.C., a residentia­l land developmen­t and real estate company that will also offer consulting services. Previously with Armadillo Homes, he has 16 years of land acquisitio­n, financing, and developmen­t experience. He served Armadillo / View Homes through the acquisitio­n of land and lots for the San Antonio, New Braunfels, Laredo, El Paso, and Las Cruces markets. Prior to joining Armadillo Homes, Schmid served in progressiv­e land acquisitio­n roles at Ryland Homes, M/I Homes and Marlin Atlantis White, acquiring in excess of 20,000 lots for detached single family homes. Schmid earned an MBA with an emphasis in finance from Southern Methodist University in 2005 and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administra­tion from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff in 1994. He is a Life Member of the San Antonio Livestock Exposition (S.A.L.E.). Schmid and his wife Andi have two daughters, Abigail, and Olivia.

Tim Pruski will advance on the Executive ladder as Vice President, Treasure. Pruski has been in the homebuildi­ng industry in the San

Antonio area for over 22 years. In 1993, he began his career with Aspen Homes as

a Superinten­dent. Pruski remained with Aspen Homes through two company acquisitio­ns - Continenta­l Homes in

1994 and DR Horton, Inc. in 1997. He was promoted internally during these transition­s and found his niche in land developmen­t and land acquisitio­n. In 2003, DR Horton promoted him to Vice President of Land Developmen­t.

Pruski currently serves as the

Land Manager at Bella Vista Homes, overseeing all land developmen­t and land acquisitio­ns since 2011. He has a wide range of knowledge in master planned communitie­s and has been actively involved and has chaired the Associatio­n’s Government Affairs Committee for many years. Pruski was instrument­al in making Bella Vista Homes a common name in the San Antonio market.

A graduate of Texas State University­San Marcos, Pruski received his BBA in Accounting in 1991. He is an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoys both hobbies with his wife, Regina.

Scott Whisenant will join the Executive Committee in 2022 as Associate Vice President. Whisenant the Vice President of Sales for StrucSure Home Warranty. He joined StrucSure in 2010 and has been highly involved with numerous homebuilde­r associatio­ns across Texas. Whisenant has received multiple industry awards including Associate of the Year Award in 2016 and Associate Legend of the Year in 2017. and is a member
