Jackson has 17 points as Aggies dump Ducks

-

COLLEGE STATION — Quenton Jackson scored 17 points as Texas A&M routed Oregon 75-60 in the second round of the NIT on Saturday at Reed Arena.

Manny Obaseki had 11 points for the Aggies (25-12). Wade Taylor IV and Henry Coleman III both scored 10. Tyrece Radford had 11 rebounds and scored eight points.

“Spirit was good. Energy was back to semi-normal,” said A&M coach Buzz Williams, alluding to the Aggies having endured a “rough” practice Friday. “Execution of what the coaches wanted them to do was spot on and I thought from start to finish that our energy, spirit, our flow, our mojo, our plan relative to how they play (was good). I thought our guys played at a really high level no matter who was in the game.”

N’Faly Dante had 13 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks for the Ducks (20-15). Eric Williams Jr. also had 13 points, while De’Vion Harmon scored 12.

The victory was the 300th in Williams’ coaching career.

“Its special — not just for me but for everybody,” Jackson said of his coach’s milestone. “He has done so much and he has given so much to this game and it’s great to see him rewarded.”

A&M, which has won nine of their last 10, advanced to host either Virginia Commonwealth or Wake Forest on Wednesday in the NIT quarterfinals. The Aggies have reached the NIT quarterfinals four times in program history, having last gotten there in 2005.

“(Our excitement level is) through the roof,” Jackson said. “But we can’t get too high and we can’t get too low. We will celebrate it for a minute, but then we will lock back in because the work ain’t done.”
