December 9, 1931 - June 4, 2022

-

Edith Luz Dillard Lopez died peacefully on June 4, 2022. Edith was born in San Antonio, Texas on December 9, 1931.

She was preceded in death by her husband Manuel V. Lopez, parents Henry Dillard and Luz Gonzalez and her grandmother Guadalupe Alvarez Garcia, whom she loved deeply.

Edith leaves behind her four children - Liz, Phillip, Henry and Helen, as well as her grandchildren Seth, Noah, Lauren, Janae and Chloe. She also leaves behind her beloved brothers and sisters and several nieces and nephews.

Edith was a graduate of Fox Tech High School.

She was honored to serve as the San Fernando Cathedral “Reina de la Simpatia” for the Daughters of Mary. Edith worked as a bookkeeper for the San Antonio Produce Terminal Market until she married Manuel. She spent countless hours volunteering at her children’s schools. She worked dutifully for several years at polling sites for Bexar County Elections, which she enjoyed, but Edith’s passion was cooking. She took classes to learn how to cook different cuisines, purchasing every tool in the process, and would experiment on her family. She took notes while watching cooking shows on television and passed along her knowledge to everyone who walked through her kitchen.

She was a very good cook and her passion became her legacy.

A visitation will be held at Angelus Funeral Home on June 22 beginning at 5:30 P.M. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on June 23 at 10:00 A.M. Edith will be buried with Manual at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Arthritis Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
