If you think it’s warm now, brace for even hotter temperatures in the coming days.

Today’s high is expected to rise to 106 degrees while Monday’s is forecast to reach 107, according to the National Weather Service. It’ll feel even hotter than that today, with heat index values as high as 109.

The agency’s heat advisory for San Antonio and the surrounding region runs through tonight, but the agency said it likely will to be expanded through Monday. The weather service also issued an excessive heat warning for today for areas along and east of Interstate 35, including Austin and San Antonio metro areas.

South Texas could see temperatures as high as 110 degrees and heat indices up to 112 in the next couple days.

The heat could be dangerous, the weather service warns, so the agency encourages people to drink lots of water; wear loosefitting, light-colored clothing; and take frequent breaks out of the sun.

Strenuous activities should be limited to early morning or evening. Children and pets must not be left unattended in vehicles.

People experiencing heat exhaustion may notice dizziness, thirst, heavy sweating, nausea and weakness. They should move to a cool area, loosen clothing, sip on cool water and try to find medical assistance if the symptoms do not improve.

Someone who is having a heat stroke will notice confusion, dizziness and can become unconscious. Call 911 if a person is having a heat stroke. The person needs to be moved to a cool area; clothing should be loosened and extra layers removed; and the individual should be cooled down with water or ice.
