ARTHUR F. STECZKOWSKI (LT. COL., USAF, RET.)
August 7, 1937 - June 20, 2022
Arthur F. Steczkowski (Lt. Col., USAF, Ret.) passed to his eternal home on June 20, 2022. A resident of San Antonio for over 45 years, he is survived by his wife of 60 years, Martha Etoile Mourer Steczkowski and his four children: Laura Steczkowski of Georgetown, TX; John Steczkowski (Rhonda) of Bertram, TX; Sarah Steczkowski Duewall (Greg) of Bryan, TX;Robert Steczkowski of San Antonio, TX; eight grandchildren: Tyler (Ashlynn), Emilia (Nelson), Blake, Shane (Ashley), Justin (Emma), Joshua, Meredith, and Mackenzi and 7 great-grandchildren: Brantley, Rooney, Brylee, Swayze, Jolene, Rosemary and Newton.
Art was born August 7, 1937 in Cleveland Ohio to Casimir (Cy) and Lottie Steczkowski. His father worked in the Republic Steel Mills in Cleveland, OH. After graduation from Saint Ignatius High School, he attended Parks College of Saint Louis University in
Cahokia, IL where he was also enrolled in USAF ROTC and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering in December of 1958. He entered active duty as a Second Lieutenant in May 1959 and received his Regular Air Force appointment in April 1961.
Art’s over 22-year career included flight test management and program management. In 1969 he earned a Master of Engineering degree from the University of Oklahoma under the Air Force Institute of Technology civilian institutions program. His final assignment was at the School of Aerospace Medicine, Clinical Sciences Division as the Deputy Division Chief for Plans and Programs. During his career he received a number of recognitions including three awards of the USAF Meritorious Service Medal.
Following his retirement from the Air Force he worked in the Propulsion Division at Kelly AFB for 5 years. He then worked with a number of contractors at Brooks AFB providing support to the Program Management Office. He finally retired in August 2010.
Art was very involved with his children’s activities including serving as an assistant Scout Master and Scout Master for BSA Troop 38 and as the President of the Horse Stables at Randolph Air Force Base. Art also enjoyed keeping up with his friends from St.Ignatius High School in Cleveland Ohio and Parks College of Engineering Aviation and Technology.
Art was honored by being named a Knight of Saint Gregory the Great in 1996. Since he came to San Antonio in 1977, he was first a member of Saint Helena’s parish and then Holy Trinity parish. At both parishes he served as a Eucharistic Minister. While at Saint Helena’s, he and Martha taught the pre-baptism classes for almost 20 years. For several years after his retirement, he and Martha delivered for Meals on Wheels.
