JOANNE BETH SKINNER
July 1, 1928 - July 3, 2022
After a prolonged battle with heart disease and pneumonia, Joanne Beth Huedepohl Skinner passed away on July 3 in a very peaceful and easy manner. Even in her final moments, she still brought joy and assuredness to her family, friends, and caregivers. She is survived by her 2 sons, Michael and Patrick.
Joanne was a lifelong resident of San Antonio and was born July 1, 1928, to Frank and Lillian Huedepohl. She was a graduate of Brackenridge High School and went on to attend University of Texas where she met and married George Skinner. She proceeded to graduate from Trinity University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication.
She used her degree to become an amazing teacher for over 30 years in the Harlandale and Northside School Districts and taught many Sunday School classes as a patron member of St. Mark’s Methodist Church.
After her retirement she became a receptionist, Stephen Minister hospital visitor, and wedding coordinator at University United Methodist Church. She also spent much of her spare time as a Lifetime Member of the Blue Bird Auxiliary at the Methodist Hospital. To those that knew her for any length of time, you immediately knew that there could be angels on Earth. Jo never hesitated to impart love and kindness to everyone that she encountered daily.
She exuded the Holy Spirit through an encouraging word, or a welcome ear and her smile and giggle stayed with you throughout the whole day. In one of her last comments on this Earth, Jo’s life philosophy became clear and apparent as she gathered enough breath to almost shout, “Life is so fragile but so wonderful! Soak in every moment and know it is all for something. Handle it with prayer! Oh, so very wonderful!”
A Memorial service will be held Monday, July 11, 2022, 10:30 a.m. at University United Methodist Church, 5084 De Zavala Rd, San Antonio, TX 78249.
The service will be also livestreamed at universitysatx.org.
