M EMORIAL H IGH S CHOOL

- Mallory Janis Rojas

Good evening, everyone. I am honored to represent the Class of 2023 as valedictorian. Seniors, today’s graduation is the end of a 12year journey, marked with both obstacles and victories along the way. Often, it is through overcoming obstacles that we reach our greatest moments of success.

The struggles that life throws at us may be challenging, but they show us that we are more powerful and more capable than we could ever imagine. I have found that whatever we face, there is an opportunity for us to come out stronger in the end. It might take years, but we can continue to fight. I have also found, in these situations, that I have emerged as a more resilient person. I am sure each of you can relate, especially the seniors who will be walking the stage tonight. Seniors, you have pushed through the last 12 years to be here today, to graduate, and receive your diploma. We have fought through so many things that have come our way, and our 4 years at Memorial have prepared us for the next stage in our lives; we are now stronger and more resilient. It is also important to acknowledge that we are not alone during our tough times. Family, friends, teachers, and sometimes even strangers, help us battle through the obstacles we face. Life isn’t easy; troubles can occur when we least anticipate them, and yet, just like that, we are expected to continue with life. Perhaps not every circumstance can be overcome, but with the help of those that surround you, you can conquer more than you might imagine.

Standing here as valedictorian, I can honestly say that the challenges I’ve gone through have made me into the person I am today. At just eight years old, I lost my mom, and since then have fought every day to carry on with life. It was particularly challenging at first, but I have overcome and changed. I found the motivation to always do my best, and worked tirelessly to get to where I am, so that one day, today, I would be able to look up above and tell my mom, “I made it”. During those tough times, I was not alone. I have had family and friends who have supported me throughout.
