Josephine “Buzz” Stevenson-Brewster was called home by The Lord on Friday, July 7, 2023 at the young age of 92.

Josephine was born in Sharon, PA, the 9th of 10 children of Joseph and Sophie (Olivkova) Buzga. She spent her youth attending polka dances at local parks and this love of dance continued throughout her life. She met her first husband Fred “Buddy” Nollen, the father of her six children, while dancing.

Buzz earned her nursing degree in 1951 and became an RN. When she wasn’t raising 6 children or working, she enjoyed suntanning, gardening and maintainin­g a healthy lifestyle. Her motto was everything in moderation.

Upon moving to San Antonio in 1971, she

briefly worked at NE Baptist Hospital. When given the opportunit­y to work at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), she quickly moved to the world-renowned Institute of Surgical Research -”The Burn Ward,” where she spent most of her career. Upon retirement she was the first recipient of the distinguis­hed Pruitt CCRN Award for her commitment to excellence in treating burn patients.

Buzz will be remembered for her fast-paced gait and life. She persevered through all life’s challenges taking them in quick stride with a strength beyond measure.

She is predecease­d by her daughter Pamela and son Larry, her first/ ex-husband Fred Nollen, second husband John Stevenson and third husband Bernard Brewster,

her parents and siblings; Frank, Aldrich, Bedrich, Mary Yourga, Hermina Carson, Joe, John, Olga Nicola, and Robert.

She is survived by four children, Frederick W. Nollen, II. (Margaret), Thomas A. Nollen (Janet), Robert J. Nollen, Sr. (Becky)and Melissa Hastings (Scott), her step- children John Stevenson (Sammy) and Terry Erickson. She is also survived by her grandchild­ren, Erick Nollen, Jacob Nollen, and Patrick Nollen, Erin Cox, Loryn Fowlkes, Robert J. Nollen, II and Ariel Nollen, Katelyn Hastings, and Clinton Hastings II. She is also survived by 13 great grandchild­ren and many loving step grandchild­ren and great grandchild­ren.

Pallbearer­s will be her grandsons, Erick Nollen, Jacob Nollen and Patrick

Nollen, Kenneth Bethune & Christophe­r Bethune, Robert Nollen II, and Clinton Hastings II.

A funeral service will be held at 10am on July 18th, 2023 at St Pius X Catholic Church, San Antonio, TX ; preceded by a rosary at 9:30am Following the service will be a graveside service at Holy Cross Cemetery.
