Josephine Babida Mota, 97, a lifetime resident of San Antonio, died June 24, 2023 at home in the presence of her family. She was born on August 26, 1925 in Dallas, Texas to Esther Ramirez Babida and Brigido L. Babida.

Josephine worked at Kelly Field Air Base as a Kelly Kate during World War II. There, she met and married her husband, Juan T. Mota. They had 4 children, Charlotte, John, Evangeline, and Leroy. A couple of the “Greatest Generation,” they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversar­y before Juan passed away in 2015.

Josephine was a remarkable woman with many talents. Her hobbies included painting, gardening, and cooking a variety of internatio­nal dishes. Her culinary skills were exceptiona­l, and her family would frequently consult her on recipes. She loved playing mahjong, completing word puzzles, and was frequently seen dabbling on her iPad.

She had an infectious smile and would light up in the presence of family and friends.

Josephine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, brothers, and sisters. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, nine grandchild­ren, and six great-grandchild­ren. Her children include Charlotte and John

Hornbeak, Carmen and John Mota, Evangeline and David Weiner, and Angela and Leroy Mota. She adored her grandchild­ren: John, Christophe­r and Jeffrey Hornbeak; AJ Weiner, Alison Winograd, Viviana Mills, Leroy Mota Jr, Kristen Garcia, and Robert Mota. Greatgrand­children include

Ava, Chloe, Anthony, Grayson, Jackson, Isla, and Josephine.

Please join us to celebrate Josephine’s life. Visitation begins at 6PM on Thursday, July 20th with a Rosary at 7PM at Porter Loring Mortuary North. The funeral Mass is on Friday, July 21st at 10:00 AM at San Fernando Cathedral. Interment will follow at San Jose
