Janice Mae Wood Ricks

Janice Mae (Wood) Ricks, formerly of San Antonio, passed away September 17, 2023, at the age of 82 in Emmett, Idaho, with her daughter by her side.

Janice was born September 30, 1940, in San Antonio, Texas, to parents Joyce Alene (Farmer) Wood and Carlie J. Wood. The family was later joined by a son,

Jerry Edgar Wood.

Janice was an active supporter and member of many civic organizations in San Antonio. She was proud to serve as President of the Alamo Chapter Association of the United States Army for several years and was honored to earn medals for her civilian service to the United States Army. She was often heard to say that she loved “her” army and the many members that served our country. Janice and her late husband

earned lifetime memberships in the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo. This yearly event was a favorite activity and she thoroughly enjoyed volunteering for the calf scramble for many years. Another organization that gave Janice much pleasure to serve was the University Hospital Board in support of medical research. While an incomplete list of all her many civic contributions, Janice embodied what it meant to give of her time, talent, and treasure. In these endeavors, she made many special memories and friends throughout the years. It was only due to failing health that she left her beloved home city to live out her final years near her daughter in Idaho.

Janice enjoyed many adventures, from parachuting with the Golden Knights to traveling

around the world, skiing the Swiss Alps, scuba diving in various tropical locations (with perfectly manicured nails and full makeup, no less), and enjoying multiple cruises – just to name a few! Janice also loved gardening and was known to have quite an oasis at her home and kept a pristinely manicured lawn. Upon moving to Idaho, Janice maintained her adventuresome spirit as she was delighted to discover the beauty of Idaho and the Pacific Northwest. She and her daughter shared mini-adventures, special moments, laughter, challenges, and deep love.

Janice is survived by her children, Jana Ricks Munson (Doug) and Richard Ricks; grandchildren Matthew Munson (Ashley), Heather Munson, and Randall Ricks (Markie); along with three great-grandchildren, with a fourth one expected in the spring.

She is predeceased by her parents, Joyce and Carlie Wood and her husband, Les John Paulick.

Services will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 510 Belknap Pl, San Antonio, Texas on November 13, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are encouraged to be made to the Fisher House Foundation, the Bexar County Junior Livestock Association, or a charity of your choice.
