Boerne picks finalist for ISD leader
Craft would be the first woman to serve as superintendent
Boerne Independent School District is moving toward hiring its first-ever female superintendent.
The Boerne ISD’s board of trustees has named Kristin Craft, an administrator with the Spring Branch school district, as the lone finalist to be the district’s next superintendent.
The board of trustees has scheduled a vote on final approval for Craft on Dec. 7.
State law requires school boards to wait 21 days before confirming the appointment of a sole finalist.
Craft, who has worked in education for 28 years, has been Spring Branch ISD’s associate superintendent of academics and chief academic officer since 2018.
Carlin Friar, president of Boerne ISD’s board of trustees, said Craft “stood out from the other applicants” and that she was “the right person to lead BISD into the future.”
“Dr. Craft realizes the uniqueness of our community as well as the importance of maintaining the small-town feel that we all love so much,” Friar said in a written statement.
Thomas Price, Boerne ISD’s current superintendent, in June said he planned to retire after seven years in the role. Price will stay on board as superintendent emeritus to guide the district during its transition.
Like the city of Boerne as a whole, Boerne ISD has experienced significant growth in recent years. The city’s population jumped from 10,471 in 2010 to 20,707 in 2022, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
The district’s enrollment has grown by about 3,000 students since 2017 and now serves about 11,000 students, according to the district.
