Carmen Barrera Muniz

Carmen Barrera Muniz, a native of San Antonio, Texas, was called home to the Lord Wednesday, November 8th in the comfort of her home. She was born on October

26, 1923. Carmen was a graduate of San Antonio Vocational and Technical High School, which later became Fox Tech High School, Class of 1944. Carmen was the cherished daughter of Santos Torralva Hawkins and Filiberto Barrera Elizondo.

Carmen was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 37 years, Joseph S. Muniz, as well as her siblings Alicia Centeno Little and Enrique Barrera.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, the Honorable Cynthia L. Muniz; her granddaugh­ter, Ana Sophia Berain-Garcia, Esq., who, along with her husband Christian, brought joy and warmth to Carmen’s life. Carmen also leaves behind two beloved greatgrand­children, Christian Joseph Garcia and Andrea Sophia Garcia, who were a source of immense pride.

Mrs. Muniz is survived by numerous nephews and nieces including Alice’s children, Jose Centeno III, Alice Joe Centeno Krupp, and John Ben Little, as well as Enrique’s family in Monterrey, N.L., Mexico; her sister-in-law, Aida Trevino vda. de Barrera, and her nieces Nancy Barrera de Garcia and Aida Barrera de Gutierrez. She is also survived by her dear cousin, Doris Pais, and her niece and spouse, Alicia Pais Raizen and

Dr. Mark Raizen. Many beloved nieces and nephews in Coahuila, Mexico, Floresvill­e, Texas, and Frederick, Maryland also survive her.

Many thanks to her dear friends who provided loving support and companions­hip during her final days, in particular, Araceli Inclan Garza, Paula Garcia, and Fred Gonzalez, as well as her nurses and caregivers.

May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with her beloved husband, Joe, and may her memory continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be dearly missed.
