April 17, 1934 - November 10, 2023

Goldine (“Goldie”) Ida Herber Cliver, born in Fredericksburg, Texas, on April 17, 1934, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2023, at her home in San Antonio, surrounded by her family. Goldie dedicated her life to her family. She was loving, generous and kind, and extended her love well beyond her own family to countless friends and the friends of her children and grandchildren.

Goldie was born to Wilson and Elsie Gold Herber and had two brothers, James and Franklin. Goldie graduated from Fredericksburg High School and moved to San Antonio where she met the love of her life, James Cliver. They married and made their home in San Antonio, were married for 70 years, and were blessed with 3 children, 9 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren. They were active members of Colonial Hills United Methodist Church.

Goldie was very involved in her children’s, grandchildren’s, and great-grandchildren’s lives, attending countless graduations, sporting events, band concerts, and dance recitals. She was the most thoughtful person—she remembered everyone’s birthday and anniversary and she always made it a point to send a card with a personal note. Little ones were always excited to find a $5 dollar bill tucked inside. She was a great listener, gave the best hugs, and was always making sure that the people around her were happy and comfortable. She exuded comfort, grace, and unconditional love.

Goldie loved traveling with Jim, shopping with her kids and grandkids, bowling with friends, cheering on the San Antonio Spurs, and hosting big, family holiday meals. While her family and friends will miss her terribly, we are comforted knowing that she is now reunited with Jim in Heaven.

Goldie is survived by her children, Diane and Mike Dillow, Ron and Ruthie Cliver, and Tim and Melissa Cliver, her grandchildren, Robyn, Kevin, Ryan, Jimmy,

Lisa, Leslie, Stefanie, and Travis, their spouses, and her 16 great grandchildren. Also survived by sister-in-law Gloria (Steve) Miller, brothers in law, Richard (Denise) Taft and Clifford (Ann) Taft, nieces, nephews she adored, and loving cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, her parents, Elsie and Wilson, her siblings, James and Franklin, and her granddaughter, Julie.

We would like to thank Jim and Goldie’s caregiver, Sandi, for the unwavering dedication and compassion shown to both Jim and Goldie over the past few years. Sandi, you are an angel and a huge blessing, and will forever be a part of our family.

Memorial services will be held on what would have been Jim’s 92nd birthday, November 21, 2023 at Colonial Hills United Methodist Church (5247 Vance Jackson, San Antonio, Texas, 78230). A visitation will be held beginning at 10:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 am, and a reception at noon. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Colonial Hills United Methodist Church, the American Cancer Society or another charity that is meaningful to you.

Goldie, Mom, Grandma Goldie, Mamaw, Mrs. Cliver—thanks for loving us and showing us how to love. We are so blessed to have had you in our lives. May you rest in peace.
