Texas A&M’s late rally not enough at Houston

HOUSTON — With the University of Houston on upset alert, Emanuel Sharp drilled a 3-pointer and yelled toward to the crowd.

Sharp’s timely shot halted a Texas A&M rally as the fourthrank­ed Cougars escaped with a 70-66 victory in the Halal Guys Showcase on Saturday afternoon at Toyota Center.

Sharp finished with 21 points and L.J. Cryer added 17 points for the Cougars. The two guards combined for nine of UH’s 11 3-pointers in the game.

UH improved to 11-0, the third-best start in program history.

Houston reserve guard Terrance Arceneaux suffered a right lower leg injury late in the first half and did not return.

MICHIGAN ST. 88 NO. 6 BAYLOR 64

Tyson Walker scored 18 of his 25 points in the first half to help build a huge lead and the struggling Spartans went on to stun the Bears at Detroit.

The Spartans (5-5) had a breakout performanc­e with a 30-point lead in the first half. The win over the Bears (9-1) snapped a two-game losing streak.

NO. 19 TEXAS 96, LSU 85

Max Abmas had 20 points and seven assists, Tyrese Hunter added a season-high 19 points and the Longhorns beat the Tigers at Houston.

Dylan Disu scored 17 points and Dillon Mitchell had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Texas (8-2). The Longhorns shot 54% from the field and made 10 of 20 from 3-point range.

Jordan Wright scored a career-high 33 points — 31 in the second half — for the Tigers (6-5).

NO. 2 KANSAS 75, INDIANA 71

Kevin McCullar Jr. scored 21 points, including four crucial free throws in the final minute, and Hunter Dickinson had 17 points and 14 rebounds as the Jayhawks rallied to a win at Bloomingto­n, Ind.

No. 2 Kansas rallied in the second half for a 75-71 win at Indiana on Saturday.

The Jayhawks trailed by as many as 13 and did not take their first lead of the game until Dickinson scored in the post to make it 62-61 with 4:53 remaining.

Trey Galloway scored a career-high 28 points for Indiana.

NO. 24 MIAMI 84, LA SALLE 77

Wooga Poplar overcame a slight ankle injury and scored a career-high 25 points as the host Hurricanes defeated the Explorers.

Norchad Omier finished with 23 points and Matthew Cleveland had 14 for the Hurricanes (8-2).

Khalil Brantley scored 23 points and Daeshon Shepherd added 15 for the Explorers (8-3).

NO. 5 UCONN 76 NO. 10 GONZAGA 63

Donovan Clingan scored 21 points, Cam Spencer had 15 and the Huskies raced past the Bulldogs on Friday night at Seattle.

Clingan hit 8 of 11 shots and grabbed eight rebounds. Alex Karaban added 11 points for UConn (10-1).

Anton Watson led Gonzaga (8-3) with 20 points.

Xavier Brown matched a career-high with 17 points off the bench to lead six Dukes in double figures in a win at Hampton, Va.

Freshman Jaylen Carey added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Dukes (10-0). Jerry Deng scored 18 for Hampton (4-6).

Freshman MiLaysia Fulwiley had 18 points and the host Gamecocks improved to 10-0 for a third straight season.

Aubrey Griffin scored a season-high 25 point s and Aaliyah Edwards added 22 on a combined 19-of-23 shooting and the Huskies won at Hartford, Conn.

Paige Bueckers hit four 3pointers and scored 20 points for UConn (7-3), with a careerhigh five blocks.

Nika Muhl had 10 of the Huskies’ 24 assists on 32 baskets.

Kiki Jefferson had 20 points for Louisville (10-2).
