Donna Marie Wright, COL (ret) passed away peacefully February 17, 2024, with her partner by her bedside. She was born in Quantico, VA, December 21, 1948. Her parents were Paul Edgar Bovard and Yolanda Mary Bovard, and she was the oldest of six children. In 1970, Donna graduated from San Diego State College with a BS in nursing. She served in Viet Nam, September 5, 1971-August 16, 1972. Donna was awarded

The National Defense Service Medal, The Viet Nam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars, the Viet Campaign Medal w/ 60 Device, 2 O/S Bars, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry w/Palm (Unit), Meritoriou­s Unit Citation, Viet Nam Civil Actions Meritoriou­s Service Medal, The Overseas Service Ribbon, The Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Unit Citation w/Palm, The Army Service Ribbon, and The Army Service Commendati­on Medal w/OLC. Donna also received the Meritoriou­s Service Medal (4th award), The Army Commendati­on Medal

(3rd award), The Army Achievemen­t Medal, Meritoriou­s Unit Commendati­on (3rd award)

The National Defense Service Medal (2nd award) and The Vietnam Service Medal (2nd award). Donna served at various medical centers in the United States and Germany. She obtained a Masters in nursing from the University of Colorado. Donna was honorably discharged and retired in February of 2000. As a civilian, she served as a senior health systems analyst.

Not only did Donna serve her country, she continued to serve her community. She was a volunteer at the Village of Incarnate Word, she was on the board of the Army Residence Community (ARC) and also served as the Chair of the Health Care Committee there. Donna was a member of the Army Nurse Corp Associatio­n (ANCA) where she served as Region 4 Director for several years and as the Awards Committee Chair for five years. Donna’s involvemen­t in her church community and the Archdioces­e of San Antonio included pastoral council president at St. Peter Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church, her parish, as well as the archdioces­e. She was a Catholic Daughter, an Extraordin­ary Minister of the Eucharist, was in charge of training and recruiting lectors, a sacristan, chaired the annual parish gala, and was the ACTS CORE facilitato­r. Donna’s service to her parish and beyond was recognized when she was given the Lumen Gentium award at the annual Archdioces­an celebratio­n which recognizes the faithful who particular­ly reflect the light of Christ to others. Whenever Donna was called, she always gave generously of her time, talent, and treasure.

Donna moved her mother, Yolanda Bovard, to San Antonio in the late 1990’s, acquired a home for her, and provided for all of her care until she turned the blessed age of 104 years old. Donna is survived by her partner of thirty years, Rita Villalpand­o, siblings Joseph Bovard (Alma Bovard), Roseanne Trunk (Tom Trunk), Paula Arthur (Jim Arthur), Rachel Winekeller, and many nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held at St. Peter Prince of Apostles Catholic Church, 111 Barilla Place, San Antonio, TX, 78209. Viewing will be held Tuesday evening, March 19, 2024, beginning at 6:00 P.M., with the rosary beginning at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 10:00 A.M., with a lunch reception immediatel­y following in the parish hall. Interment at Fort Sam National Cemetery will begin at 1:45 P.M. following the reception.
