Chevrolet continues offering full line of trucks

- By G. Chambers Williams III

Chevrolet for 2024 continues to offer a full line of pickup trucks, sport-utility vehicles and car-based crossover utility vehicles to fit virtually any need – for work or family.

Products include the Trax, Trailblazer, Equinox, Blazer and Traverse crossovers, ranging from small to large, and the full-size truckbased sport-utilities, the Tahoe and Suburban.

Trucks in the Chevy lineup include the midsize Colorado; light-duty, full-size Silverado 1500 models; and the Silverado Heavy Duty models, including the 2500HD and 3500HD models, which got major upgrades for model year 2024.

The compact Equinox crossover is Chevrolet’s second-best-selling vehicle, after the Silverado pickup, and more than 2 million have been sold since it was introduced for the 2005 model year. A redesigned, nextgeneration Equinox will be coming for 2025.

Chevrolet Traverse

Chevy has redesigned its midsize Traverse three-row crossover for 2024, with a bold new design with more truck-like proportions, more safety features, and more horsepower and torque from the all-new turbocharged engine. There is also a new off-road capable Z71 model, a designation that Chevrolet initially debuted on its Silverado pickups more than 25 years ago.

Four trim levels are available

— LS, LT, Z71 and RS — each with distinct design features and standard equipment, and all with new and enhanced safety features and technologies.

For 2024, all Traverse models come with the new 2.5-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine, producing 315 horsepower and 317 foot-pounds of torque. It’s connected to an eightspeed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive is standard.

All-wheel drive is offered across the line, including an off-road-capable twin-clutch AWD system unique to the Z71.

When properly equipped, the new Traverse can tow trailers weighing up to 5,000 pounds.

The Traverse Z71 comes with more ground clearance, all-terrain tires fitted on 18-inch wheels, and a unique front end that increases the approach angle for off-road obstacles.

The twin-clutch AWD system is designed to optimize traction and handling in off-road driving conditions, and there are unique suspension dampers with hydraulic rebound control to improve off-roadcapability.

Other features include driverselectable terrain drive modes, Hill Descent Control, and a standard trailering package.

All 2024 Traverse models come with Chevy Safety Assist, a suite of safety features and driver assistance technologies.

Chevrolet Silverado

Chevrolet’s iconic Silverado 1500 got a complete redesign for 2022, including the addition of the ZR2 model, Chevy’s new flagship off-road truck and the latest addition to a successful lineup of off-road, factory-installed lifted trucks.

Also introduced was an enhanced, stronger version of the 2.7-liter Turbo High-Output inline four-cylinder engine that offers more torque than any base engine in its class. It’s rated at 310 horsepower and 430 foot-pounds of torque.

The 2.7-liter engine is paired with an eightspeed automatic transmission, and boasts EPA fuel economy ratings of 19 mpg city/22 highway with rear-wheel drive, and 17/20 with four-wheel drive.

Silverado also features an elevated exterior design and an expressive interior with enhanced technology.

Recent changes included a 13.4-inch-diagonal touch screen standard on LT, RST, LT Trail

Boss, ZR2, LTZ and High Country models, and available Super Cruise hands-free driver-assistance technology with trailering on the High Country.

Other highlights of the newest Silverado generation include a redesigned interior for LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, ZR2, LTZ and High Country models, with a horizontal instrument panel that makes the cabin feel more spacious, as well as a center console that includes the optional electronic shift control, available on most trim levels.

There is a 13.4-inch-diagonal color touch screen and a 12.3-inch-diagonal configurable digital instrument cluster standard on models with the new interior

Also standard with the new interior, Google built-in offers access to Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play on the infotainment screen. This new experience works with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability and offers new levels of customization and flexibility for customers.

Every model features a new front fascia, emphasizing the truck’s stability and strength with a wide, planted stance.

Daytime running lights are programmed with animated walk-up and walk-away functions, in addition to swiping turn-signal functions on select trim levels.

The Silverado ZR2 and ZR2 Bison are the flagships of Chevy trucks’ factory-lifted off-road lineup, offering race-proven off-road performance customers can buy right from the showroom floor, Chevy says.

Standard is the 6.2-liter V-8 engine, delivering 420 horsepower and 460 foot-pounds of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Included in the ZR2 are a premium interior, new standard safety features, and rugged off-road capabilities.

ZR2 suspension upgrades, enhanced off-road technology and exterior enhancements were developed to optimize off-road performance and capability, while balancing everyday driving comfort.

ZR2’s maximum payload is 1,440 pounds and the conventional trailer weight rating is 8,900 pounds.

Chevrolet Silverado HD

Chevrolet updated its Silverado Heavy Duty pickups for model year 2024, with “a bold new look” with a “more commanding presence,” powertrain upgrades, an overhauled interior, enhancements to its trailering technology, and updated infotainment and active safety technologies.

The lineup includes 2500HD and 3500HD models in Regular

Cab, Double Cab, and Crew Cab configurations.

Dual-rear-wheel models are available on the 3500HD, and they support the lineup’s highest trailering capacity: 36,000 pounds.

The 2024 Silverado HD is available in Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ, and High Country trims. The new ZR2 off-road oriented version has joined the HD trim lineup.

Also, the Allison 10-speed automatic transmission is now standard on both of the Silverado HD’s powertrains: the standard 6.6-liter V-8 gas engine and the available Duramax turbodiesel.

For towing, the 10-speed configuration helps direct full torque to the tires in every gear. In turn, the 2024 Silverado HD’s Gross Combined Weight Rating with the 6.6-liter gas engine increased to 26,000 pounds, up from 24,000 pounds.

The Allison transmission’s

10-speed design optimizes grade braking with the gas engine, with the closer gear ratios enabling greater engine-braking control. That, in addition to precise tuning for smooth shifts and quicker downshifts, complements the enhanced feeling of on-demand power, greater control, precision and refinement.

As for the Duramax 6.6-liter turbodiesel V-8 engine, power increased to 470 horsepower and 975 foot-pounds of torque.

Freshened front-end features included a new fascia, headlights, grille and more.

C-shaped LED graphic lights frame the new fascia, inspired by the signature design of the Silverado 1500, while bold, new headlights on LTZ, ZR2 and High Country models feature dual-projector technology.

Exterior changes also include standard tow hooks, and “Chevrolet” lettering on the hood scoop.

Six new exterior colors were added: Sterling Gray, Dark Ash, Radiant

Red, Auburn Metallic, Lakeshore

Blue Metallic and Meteorite Metallic.

The revised Durabed cargo box optimizes cargo capability, and offers a best-in-class 83.5 cubic feet of cargo space with the long box. Also included are the CornerStep rear bumper, BedSteps, available six-position Multi-Flex tailgate, available 120-volt power outlet, available power tailgate and more.

The lineup also retains the popular Z71 Sport Edition, Z71 Chrome Sport Edition and Midnight Special Edition appearance packages.

Chevrolet Tahoe

Chevrolet’s full-size, regular-length SUV, the Tahoe, gets some key updates for 2025, with fresh exterior and interior designs, after entering its newest generation two years ago with a major makeover and lots of new technologies, as well as the first diesel-engine option.

Tahoe is offered in six trim levels: LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier and High Country. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but four-wheel drive is available across the board (standard on Z71).

New just last year was Super Cruise, the industry’s first true hands-free driver-assistance technology for

compatible roads, offered on the Tahoe Premier and High Country models.

New exterior colors included Silver Sage

Metallic, Sterling Gray Metallic, and Radiant Red Tintcoat (extra cost). An accessory black grille with “CHEVROLET’ lettering is offered on LS, LT, RST and Premier models.

With the remake, there is now 60% more cargo room behind the third row for Tahoe, and it also got 10 inches more third-row legroom.

These vehicles have an independent rear suspension paired with available Magnetic Ride Control and firstin-class Air Ride Adaptive Suspension.

Standard is a 355-horsepower 5.3-liter gasoline V-8 engine. Optional are a 6.2-liter gasoline V-8 with 420 horsepower, and a turbocharged 3.0-liter Duramax diesel engine with 277 horsepower and

460 foot-pounds of torque.

All engines come with a 10-speed automatic transmission with pushbutton electronic shift

The Tahoe and its Suburban big brother have best-in-class nine camera views and new trailering features, including trailer profiles, trailer tire pressure/temperature monitoring and Side Blind Zone Alert for trailering.

These well-equipped and –appointed large SUVs have seating for up to eight passengers, and plenty of cargo space.

Chevrolet Blazer

Chevrolet in 2019 re-introduced the Blazer name on a new midsize, five-passenger crossover utility vehicle that fits between the Traverse three-row crossover and the compact five-passenger Equinox in Chevy’s crossover lineup.

An EV (electric vehicle) version has been introduced for 2024, with a starting price of $56,715.

For 2024, the gasoline-only Blazer comes in LT, RS (Rally Sport) and Premier models, with the LT offered in 2LT and 3LT variants. Base prices begin at $36,795 (including freight), and range as high as $47,595.

Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is available across the lineup. It’s $2,700 extra on the LT models, or $2,900 on RS and Premier versions.

On the gasoline models, the base engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine (standard on both LT models and the Premier), cranking out 228 horsepower and 258 foot-pounds of torque. It’s connected to a nine-speed automatic transmission.

EPA ratings are 22 city/29 highway/25 combined for front-wheel drive, and 22/27/24 for all-wheel drive. Standard on the RS and available for $500 extra on the 3LT and Premier is Chevy’s 3.6-liter

V-6 engine, with 308 horsepower and 270 footpounds of torque. Again, a nine-speed automatic transmission is standard.

EPA ratings for the V-6 are 19 city/26 highway/22 combined (front drive) and 18/26/21 (AWD). An advanced twin-clutch all-wheel-drive system is available on RS.

For 2024, there is a new exterior color, Riptide Blue Metallic. Also, heated front seats are now standard on all trim levels.

The special Midnight/Sport Edition and

Redline Edition available are LT trims. A power/ programmable liftgate available is now offered on 2LT, and standard on 3LT, RS and Premier models.

Chevrolet’s infotainment system with a 10.2inch color touch screen is standard. Navigation is standard on RS and Premier models, and available on 3LT.

For a safe ride, Chevy Safety Assist is standard across the board, and includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Following Distance Indicator, Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and IntelliBeam automatic high beams.

Adaptive Cruise Control and Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking are available on all trims, while the Driver Confidence II package is available on RS and Premier. It includes HD Surround Vision, Rear Camera Mirror, Adaptive Cruise Control, Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking and the Safety Alert Seat.

The 2.0-liter Blazer models can tow trailers weighing up to 3,500 pounds; six-cylinder Blazers with all-wheel drive are capable of towing trailers weighing up to 4,500 pounds.

There is 30.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat, and 64.2 cubic feet with the second-row seatback folded flat. The second-row seat can slide fore and aft to increase leg and knee room or boost cargo space behind it. Also included is a cargomanagement system with rails and a cargo fence.
